About Me

My Early Inspiration

My upbringing was that of a relatively normal, 2.4 family, in a suburb of Birmingham. I have a younger sister, whom I distinctly remember not asking for when they bought her home from hospital, but kind of grew to love her. I loved school, apart from Mathematics, and relished learning. My favourite subject was English, or anything creative. I remember enthusiastically reading and writing in my early years at school, in particular creative writing. A vivid memory for me was upon returning from the six weeks holidays at the ripe old age of 6, we were told to describe something we had enjoyed during the break. I chose to wrote chapter and verse about my favourite film of the time, the children's classic 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'.

I had watched this film over and over and had probably very nearly worn out the VCR as they were in those days - for anyone reading this under the age of 21, its a Video Cassette Recorder - I suggest you google it or ask your parents. I stayed in at all 3 break times to finish my masterpiece and on completion was rushed straight to the Headmaster's office to gain a sticker and a sweetie from the jar. The ultimate honour at school, apart from being chosen to ring the school bell. As with this blog, I was not requiring recognition, it for reward, it is for the sheer pleasure that writing brings and I hope you enjoy the read. The name Cicadas and Marathons was chosen as they are two significant, yet insignificant things that have entered my life over the past 3 months. Cicadas are wonderful insects that make an excitable noise which you will either love or hate. They live mainly in the trees in sunnier climes and make that high pitched chirping noise that you hear when on holidays especially in Greece. The noise is made mainly by the male of the species from its abdomen. I will probably go into more detail of this wonderful creature later on in my blog, but for some reason, these are important to me and my boyfriend. Marathon was a word not really in my vocabulary until this year, let alone contemplating myself running one. I assure you that as of the 3rd of July this year, I could not run for 30 seconds. After pure inspiration from the one person who truly knows me, I am now trying to get myself in shape for the Athens 2016 marathon. I am lucky to have the support of an amazing guy, who has already ran in the last two marathons and will be taking part in his third this November. I dedicate this blog to him.
