Recommended Holiday Reads
As much as I love writing, my first love is reading. I am always on the lookout for a new book or read to while away a few hours in the sunshine on the island! Anything I particularly liked I will do a mini review here.
The Island by Victoria Hislop
A MUST read while you holiday in Greece - or savor the delicious story until you return home and imagine your feet in the sand and the sea gently lapping at the shore. Set in Crete, it is a historic novel of a greek village, plagued by tragedy on its tiny island out to sea, Spinalonga.
Things Can Only Get Feta by Marjory McGinn
A heart warming and funny account of life in Greece. A journalist couple from Scotland move to the Greek Mainland with their furry friend, Wallace, a rogue Jack Russell with a huge personality. Guaranteed to make you smile from your sun-lounger.
Falling In Honey by Jennifer Barclay
A light-hearted tale about a woman who moves to Greece on a whim, and her day by day account of village life. Easy reading for any beach day.
Captain Correlli's Mandolin by Louis De Bernier
A Must for any Kefalonia lovers, but expect another level of reading. It is well worth the read, and a must when visiting my beloved Greek island.
The Magic In The Receiver by Paul Dillon
Another Kefalonia delight. Paul Dillon brings the earthquake of 1953 back to life in a tale that entwines old and new. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Give Me Your Tomorrow - John Brassey
I absoloutley LOVED this read. I could not put it down for a minute. A real emotional journey pulled me along through every page.
The Necklace of Goddess Athena - Effrosyni Moschoudi
I began to read this book, and was unsure, however, I always finish a book, and I am so glad I did. A slow start, but utterly brilliant. I cannot wait to read her next one.
The Greek Village Series - Sara Alexi
Currently half way through the first in the series, and unable to put it down for long - will report back once finished!
