The Return to Oz...
The next five weeks flew by in a flash. Unsurprisingly, some days dragged, and some days I blinked and I missed them, but sure enough, I was soon sat fresh faced in the departures at Birmingham Airport waiting nervously to return to Kefalonia to indulge in the next adventure of my life. I was confident that everything would be perfect, else I would not have contemplated returning, but as is in our human nature, the usual worries trickled through my thoughts, but I allowed them to filter out and remain in a Kefalonia state of mind.
An uneventful flight saw me landing into the island on schedule, with thanks to Thomson Airways, and I disembarked with a pounding heart into the humid heat on the tarmac. I crossed the apron with a cool breeze blowing through my hair, allowing me to gather my thoughts and stay calm.
I spotted him straight away when I came into the arrivals hall to collect my luggage. If you have been to Kefalonia, you will know how itsy bitsy the airport is. I was impressed that he was on time and right where he said that he would be and to boot he was even more gorgeous than I remembered. To my astonishment, my case was first off on the carousel and I collected my luggage and made my way over to see him. It felt like I had never left, my nerves melted away at the first embrace.
My stay on the island was comfortable and effortless, I felt I was spending time with someone who truly shared my beliefs and opinions, and soon it became apparent that I had absolutely, for the first time in my life, made the right decision. We travelled the length and breadth of the island, most of its 759km². We saw some truly amazing places, places that you could only know about if you lived there. I will share these places with you later on in my descriptions of the island. Right now I was in paradise. I felt the
luckiest girl in the world, and I had everything I wanted right there in front of me. The urge to leave the UK behind was even stronger than ever. I felt like I belonged. Kefalonia had her arms around me and was holding me tightly, more to the point, I did not want her to let go.
