It's All Relative...

As the days passed, so did my fixation with the island. A friend that I had made on the island told me once that 'Kefalonia choses you, you don't chose the island'. It seemed this was very true. I don't mean in a way that you get everything you what, but you get what you need. On my last trip to Greece, I was offered opportunities that would have enabled me to stay and although, they were not ideal or well paid, I would have managed to get by. I had to come back to the UK to sort out my belongings amongst other things, but I know if I had wanted or could have stayed, everything would have been okay. Kefalonia has offered me plenty of gifts and opportunities to stay there, including introducing me to my lovely boyfriend, for all that the island has given me, I am truly grateful.

As I mentioned, my partner works of an evening, which leaves me to fend for myself. I do not mind as it gave me an opportunity to have some me time, and blog, read, sunbathe, anything I wanted really, but occasionally I did find myself looking for things to do. So, imagine my surprise one evening, when sauntering down the main street in Skala, I bumped into two of my cousins who were holidaying on the island. I had no idea that they were coming and after a quick chat and catch up, they told me they were there for 2 weeks and were staying at the same hotel I had stayed at in May and met Ilias at. We made definite plans to meet up the next night for a meal in Katelios, a resort I had never ventured to. We met up quite a few times whilst they were there and was lovely to have their company. Unfortunately, due to some weird and wonderful events that happened to them on the island, which I may or may not divulge, Kefallinia is not their number one holiday destination, but they still had a lovely time on the whole.

The start of September welcomed some wet weather, thunderstorms and power cuts on the island, but all parr for the course, things like this occur even in paradise. We made use of the tropical weather to see more of the island by car. I have a favourite village there called Aghia Eirini, and we ventured up there some days to get some fresh meat from the butchers, also there is a villager there that sells 'meli' or honey. It is really good product and worth the trip up to the village. It really is paradise here, not that I am trying to convince anyone! :)

Some of the stormy weather is captured here by island resident and photographer Martyn Green.
