All Roads Lead to..... Athens?
Back at the start of my relationship, infact, day two of meeting him, he told me that he had an apartment in Athens, and one day hoped that I could visit him there. I had never visited Athens and my heart leapt, not only at the thought of going there, but that he was thinking ahead. I know, I know, at the start of relationships, us women cling on to any glimmer of hope of a future when we meet someone that we really like, but, I somehow believed him.
Well 7 months later the day came when I would meet him in Athens. However, my own life path in the UK was kind of straying off the A and B roads, and although it was probably still marked on an ordanance survey map, I was having a hard time. You may have remembered me telling you that I started a new job back in September, and that I did not enjoy it very much. I was basically sold up the river and left with no oars or paddle, a choice I deeply regretted at the time. I was due to fly to Athens on the 7th November and was looking forward to it, until the 5th November came and I lost my job, for no apparent reason. Being in probation periods in the UK is common now when you start work, but they do not have to give much of a reason to send you packing. I had worked from the age of 13 with a paper round and this was the first time in my life that I had never had a job. Looking back now, it was the best thing that ever happened, as it allowed me time to reflect on my future, and making a new start. I changed my flight to Athens and went a day earlier, well there was no point moping about in the UK was there. This flight to Greece was different though as I was not coming back alone. I landed in Athens early evening to be greeted by my wonderful boyfriend. I fell in love with Athens on our first trip, and I cannot wait to tell you all about this amazing city in my next post.
